Something New

Hi everyone! My name is Joseph and this is my new blog. It’s been a long time coming, but I finally decided to begin writing online. For some time I had debated over whether or not I really wanted to start. But over the past several months, some people that I am very close with encouraged the idea at various points. So here I am! I’ll center this blog around sharing a little bit about myself, and explaining the intentions for this website.

I am currently a Sophomore in college at Anderson University in Indiana, studying psychology and writing. My dream job is to one day hold a position in christian counseling, because over time I have felt led towards this direction. Talking to people about there struggles and helping them is a passion of mine. As a follower of Christ, one of my goals is to grow in my relationship with Him. Growing in His love is very important to me, and He has surrounded me in His comfort many times. This is part of the reason I am driven towards counseling. I believe that it is an area where I can show others God’s love. So many people are struggling, and sometimes what we all need is someone to listen to us. Sometimes we need to feel heard in order for healing to begin.

Now, as for my hobbies, I really enjoy playing guitar, skateboarding, and hanging around my friends and family. Also to be entirely honest, I am somewhat of a geek when it comes to entertainment and fandom. Especially when it comes to fantasy and sci-fi. Ever since I was a young kid, I always enjoyed stories. Those stories could be told in a great deal of fashions, whether it be from a book, movie, or TV show. And the genre could be pretty much be almost anything. What was most important for me, was the ability to feel connected to the characters and the story at hand. If I was able to do this within a story, I almost always enjoyed it. I wanted to share this bit about myself because it will play a role in what I have planned for this platform.

As you can see, the name of my blog is Reflection to Insight. I chose this title because I feel that it represents an overarching theme for this domain. Many things occur in our day to day lives. We have a myriad of events transpiring around us, and we need to process it all. When we take a step back to think, it can often lead to us gaining insight. Sometimes though, we need other’s opinions in order to gain that insight. And personally, I think that we always need God’s opinion to see clearly. On this platform, I plan to discuss different Christ centered messages as I feel led, as well as things going on in my own life. I will also try to write about events that catch my attention within our world. And because of my geeky side, I will dedicate part of my writing to reviews on different entertainment pieces. I’ll also aim to point out some christian themes that I see within these different stories as well. I always get intrigued when I see a message within a plot that reflects something Jesus has taught us. Forgiveness is one example that I see commonly, especially if it’s a drama or a script focusing heavily on family and friends.

So that’s all I had for you guys today, but I want to say thank you to everyone for reading through this first post. This is a something new and exciting and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds. I hope this page can be a place of love and encouragement to you all. Most importantly, I hope God is able to reveal Himself to you through these posts. I have always enjoyed writing, so I wanted to try and utilize this blog as a way to serve Him and witness to others. Stay safe and well, and remember to take some reflection time as you walk through your day!

Great post, Joseph. Your writing is very inspiring. Now I know why you are interested in English courses. I really look forward to following your blog. Good luck as you return to Anderson. Your grandmother and I are very proud of what you are doing with your life in Christ.
